[Selection] Netherlands began their preparation without Afellay

The Barça player will join his team after the Cup final against Athletic.

The Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk screening reduced the 'Oranje' from 36 to 27 players to start a minipretemporada in Lausanne (Switzerland) from Thursday 17 until next May 26. As reported by the Dutch FA (KNVB), based on 27 players, three of them: the strikers Arjen Robben (Bayern Munich) and Ibrahim Afellay (Barcelona) and midfielder Stijn Schaars (Sporting Lisbon) will be added later due different commitments. Bayern Munich has to play the final of the Champions League on May 19 against Chelsea, the Sporting dispute the Portuguese Cup final against Academica de Coimbra on 20 May and Barça the final cup-bearer to the Athletic on 25 May. For this reason, Afellay, who has been injured all season because of a serious ligament injury in his knee and started playing a few weeks ago, will not be incorporated until later. Also on the list of 27, the Málaga central defender Joris Mathijsen. After the stay in Lausanne, between 17 and 26 May, the Dutch team will return home and train a few days in Hoenderloo. The final list will close on May 29. The Dutch team, runner-up World, will travel to Poland on June 4. The van Martwijk play the first phase in the most difficult qualifying group, B, along with Germany, Portugal and Denmark. (via SPORT)
