FC Barcelona racks up yet another success. Five men from the team led by Josep Guardiola were named to UEFA.com’s ideal team by users of the site. Alves, Piqué, Xavi, Iniesta and Messi were named to the team along with Casillas, Thiago Silva, Marcelo, Robben, Bale, and Cristiano Ronaldo. Guardiola was named the best manager of the year, an award he also won in 2009. More than 4.5 million votes were cast.
It’s worth mentioning that eight Barça players, and Guardiola, were nominated to be part of the squad - only Valdés, Mascherano and Abidal didn’t make the team. The nominees were selected by the UEFA.com editors.
This is the fourth consecutive time that Xavi and Messi have been named to the team, while it’s Iniesta’s third and Piqué’s second. This is Alves’ second appearance in the UEFA.com squad, however, his first time was when he was a Seville player. (via FCBarcelona.cat)
