Marcos Malaquías, representative of FC Barcelona on loan at Palmeiras, Henrique, met Friday with some managers of the club where he is campaigning for the time to analyze the situation of the player.

Barca stipulated a purchase price and a deadline for that purpose and set alviverde has priority. But apparently, Gremio are interested in hiring the services of defender. However, the Porto Alegre club will wait to see what the position of the São Paulo to begin talks with the player.

Malaquías respecting the preferential option with those of Sao Paulo, but he wants that they are pronounced as soon as possible, since in the south it is spoken of Henrique like the incorporation preferred by Gremio, and he is considered that it would be a good destination for the central defender.

Gremio president Paulo Odone, has confirmed that look a player in that position and hired him in 2012. "I'll talk to Henrique and Tirone (president of Palmeiras). Barcelona not want to give more to the player. We want to know the intentions of Palmeiras," said the manager, in relation to a possible purchase intent by "alviverdes ".

But São Paulo, by contrast, are in no hurry. The loan contract with Barcelona runs until June 2012 and the club sees no reason to resolve the situation now. What seems clear is that, for now, are not the work of hiring Henrique. (via SPORT)

Andrés Fernández: "Do not repeat the 8-0 of the League"

Goalkeeper Andrés Fernández believes that the tie between Osasuna and Barça will not repeat the 8-0 fitted by the 'rojillos' in the League at the Camp Nou in September.

"It will be nice because I think a playoff is not going to repeat what happened at the Nou Camp and we will come with options for the second home game," said Andres Fernandez in a telephone conversation with Efe.

Murcia goalkeeper, who started League after last season's transfer to Huesca, said the match against Barcelona will be "very different" conceded this season 8-0 at Camp Nou on what is important to "get the party options back. " ""It is at the present time a complicated preliminary round against the best team in the world, but in a preliminary round of Copa del Rey it can pass any thing", he indicated.

Osasuna goalkeeper said that the club can play "more pressure" to be the "favorite" and that, if the azulgranas beat the road "will not be easy to reach the final." (via SPORT)

Gratacós: "To Osasuna must be respected"

Barca and whites could cross the quarter-finals if they exceed Osasuna and Malaga. "We can win in Camp Nou and then to lose the preliminary round. It is the Copa and to Madrid it can pass them the same" thing, he added.

Asked if there is desire for revenge after whites last year to beat Barca in the final, Gratacós stressed that above this rivalry, what matters to your organization is to fight for the trophy. "We want to win titles in doing good things and to respect your opponents. Hospitalet is demonstrated. The fact that we played seven world champions out practically means that we respect every opponent and we want to reach all possible endings, "he said.

Cesc: "It’s Pep who makes the machine work"

The midfielder praised the role of the manager who "gets the best out of the players", something which has allowed him, in his first few months to learn "so much".

This morning Barça found out that Osasuna will be their rival in the last 16 of the Cup. Cesc warned that the 8-0 win over Osasuna in the League is not a fair reflection of their performances this season. "They are a tough rival. Barça: The Impossible Dream of Higuain

Real Madrid's Argentine has always said he would love to play alongside Leo Messi ... But the problem is that Florentino does not make the same mistake that Eto'o.

The great dream of Gonzalo Higuain is the most deadly players: playing in the sublime Barcelona and next to the exceptional Leo Messi , although in the case of the Argentine striker Real Madrid at least it can claim to act along with the Blaugrana megacrack in the Argentina. Friends in Common 'Pipit' and Messi already know that the attacker if need merengue pay by moving to Camp Nou and was there with his colleague and compatriot. A little over two months, Higuain told the newspaper Olé, after a 4-1 Argentina endorsed by the selection of Chile, that "it is a pleasure to play alongside Messi. I quite understand him."

Today, Higuain is not at all happy at Real Madrid. For the first time he feels substitute of French Karim Benzema was 'era Mourinho' and, as reported in its edition of MD on Wednesday, is considering his departure on 30 June. However, the option of calling at the FC Barcelona next season seems impossible, mainly because the club is confident Barca rapid recovery from David Villa, a forward with a full account Josep Guardiola, despite rumors that place the 'Guaje' in a new club coming season. Villa will possibly point to the final of the Champions League, Barça if the dispute, and for the European Championship with the Spanish team. It also has to face next season, so the 'Pipit' has it complicated.

Real listen to offers

Real Madrid , however, listen to offers for Higuain (does every summer despite official denials), though by no means enter into any negotiations with Barça. True, the blanco president, Florentino Perez , seeking to end the 'Pipit', one of the last signings reviled Ramon Calderon , but do not want to repeat another "Eto'o case", which in its day passed with albarca devastating to the Madrid and the Blaugrana undoubted success (Cameroon was decisive, for example, won two Champions in 2006 and 2009). A transfer to an important sector of Real Madrid always reproached the president merengue. Another major issue is that the fans at the Bernabeu will have a great affection for Florentino Perez Higuain is aware that the Argentine would pass a very unpopular. Moreover if the eternal rival. So the desire of the Real Madrid striker will stay that possibly, an aspiration that while blanco view may not meet.

Bartomeu: “I hope for a 2012 as successful as this one”

Athletic Vice President of FC Barcelona, Josep Maria Bartomeu, celebrated the team’s good finish to the year, that ended with the qualification for the round of 16 of the King’s Cup and with the Club World Cup victory last Sunday. “It has been a fantastic year. We must celebrate it and hope for a 2012 as successful as this one.” On the overwhelming victory against Hospitalet, Bartomeu said that the team “played very well. It was evident that they were eager. They came back from the World Cup and they played spectacularly.” He was also visibly pleased that the people “enjoyed the match,” especially on a day like today, with the celebration of the Diada del Socio Solidario (Day of Member Solidarity). Josep Guardiola: “The way they behave is admirable”

The Barça manager highlighted the general attitude displayed by the players after winning the Club World Cup last Sunday, “they came here and strived against Hospitalet”.

“We’ve earned prestige with today’s football demonstration.” Pep Guardiola, who was concerned about how his team would handle tonight’s match against Hospitalet after the Club World Cup in Japan, was visibly satisfied by the general attitude displayed by his players. He not only highlighted the talent of the squad but the “capacity to play the round of 32 in the King’s Cup after being named the best club in the world.” For this reason he said that “the way they behave is admirable.” Guardiola believes that this is the reason that “we are doing things right.”

Guardiola explained that he prepared this game “like any other game. We studied images [of Hospitalet] that we’d usually skip, the players can’t perceive that we don’t do our job and then demand that they do theirs.”

The Barça manager said that matches like tonight’s at the Camp Nou usually “have fewer people. I know that the Club invited social groups. I think it’s a beautiful idea. It’s great that they came and cheered us on. The stadium wasn’t full but we heard the 50,000 people, I’m very thankful.”

The manager had special words of praise for Isaac Cuenca. “He’s been impeccable all year. We hope that with humility, the behaviour of being seen and talking little, that he will be ready and as a player, be at the required level.” (via FCBarcelona.cat)

Pedro: “I feel better every day”

The Spanish striker confirmed on the pitch that his heel injury is history. For Pedro, scoring so early was key.

Thanks to him Barça opened and closed its scoring tally, on Barça TV’s El Marcador, Pedro explained that he felt like he was returning to former form, before his ankle injury: “I feel better every day, I’m getting more rhythm and confidence. I hope to start next year at 100%.” He also admitted that it’s very difficult to win a starting spot in this Barça team: “There’s a lot of competition, there are players that are doing really well. It’s great for the group.”

He allows Thiago to take the second penalty

On Barça’s thrashing of L’Hospitalet, Pedro said: “We started off intensely, we knew it would be difficult because of how the away game went. The fact that we scored early made it easier, from that point on we were more comfortable.” Without preferences on Barça's next rival in the next round, he said that he let Thiago take the second penalty because he got the first one: “Thiago asked me if he could take it and I let him, like Xavi and Cesc let me take the first one.”

Here are the players’ comments after the match;

Andrés Iniesta (Facebook):

“We’re in the next round, looking forward to tomorrow’s draw. The injury I got today will disappear soon! Merry Christmas! Thank you so much for your concern!”

Víctor Valdés (Facebook):

“I’m off on Christmas vacation! Happy holidays everyone, I’ll post some photos! A big hug! Enjoy being with your families!”

Sergi Roberto:

“After winning the Club World Cup they came out as if it was another final and they demonstrated that they are the best.”

“I really enjoyed playing with the team, the game and the victory.”

“We’ve shown that we never let our guard down, but we always respect our opponent.”

Cristian Tello:

“I was really eager, it was my debut at the Camp Nou and I’m really happy because we won and because of my personal performance.”

“I can’t believe it, I’m very excited and content. However, I know my place in the reserve side.”

“We didn’t expect so many people to show up. It was a prize for us.”

Cesc Fàbregas:

“I have a knock on my knee. It hurts a bit, and I’ll be OK.”

“We hope that the good play and titles continue in 2012.”

“I didn’t score, but I had three or four assists and I’m happy with that.”

[Copa del Rey; 1/16 final; Leg2] FC Barcelona 9 - 0 CE L´Hospitalet

Pedro, Iniesta, Thiago (2), Xavi, Tello (2) and Cuenca (2), racked up nine goals – five before the break- as Barça charged into the last 16 of the Spanish Cup in the last game of 2011 at the Camp Nou tonight.

FC Barcelona secured their place in the next round of the Spanish Cup with a tremendous 9-0 rout of Hospitalet, with Pedro opening the scoring on 10 minutes and Iniesta, Thiago (2), Xavi, Tello (2) and Cuenca getting the rest. The victory, added to the 0-1 win at Hospitalet was only overshadowed by an injury to Iniesta, who will now be out for the next 15 days.

Guardiola's team go into the next round, alongside Valencia, Mallorca, Espanyol, Seville, Madrid, Malaga, Llevant, Osasuna, Real Sociedad, Racing, Athletic Club, Albacete, Alcorcón, Mirandés and Cordoba.

Guardiola fielded 10 home grown players, only Pinto had not come up through the academy system, and the team showed how serious they were about the game from the off, going 3-0 up within the first 22 minutes: the first was a Pedro penalty, the next an Iniesta effort after Xavi had brilliantly put Cesc through and the third a lovely goal from Thiago after he won back a ball in midfield and shimmied through the visitors'' defence.

By half time it was five, but also by then Iniesta had had to call for a substitution after he'd knocked into the Hospitalet keeper and tests later revealed he'd be out for up to 15 days. He was replaced by Sergi Roberto, who came close to making it four almost immediately, but in the end it was Xavi who did just that, rounding off a lovely reverse pass from Cesc. And that was that for the Catalan midfielder who soon after his goal was replaced by Tello, who then went on to make it five, charging through from the midfield just a couple of minutes after coming on.

The 56.480 fans who had turned up at the Camp Nou were no doubt wondering just how many goals their team were going to end up putting past Hospitalet and soon after the break, Cuenca made it a half dozen, finishing off some great work from Tello out on the left. Curiously enough the Barça attack was made up of three conventional wingers now -Tello, Pedro and Cuenca.

However, the team weren't prepared to settle for six! Thiago was brought down by Viale and again handed penalty taking duties to Pedro , whilst Tello scored his second soon after to make it 8-0. Could Barça now beat their 8-0 win over Osasuna? Well yes, of course - Cuenca got his second latching on to yet another great ball form Cesc and the players wrapped up a great night and an even greater 2011 with a stunning nine goal haul – here's to a Happy New Year! The midfielder was injured after a collision with the keeper Craviotto on the 27th minute of the match. Guardiola was forced to bring in Sergi Roberto to replace Iniesta. Rosell: “The season is already very good”

“What I want for Christmas is Guardiola’s contract renewal to be signed,” said the Barça president.

On Neymar: “If we made a move for Neymar, I wouldn’t say so. That would hurt FC Barcelona”.

Rosell says that Abidal’s contract renewal is “immanent” and that Hleb will not join the team.

2011 is coming to an end at it’s time to evaluate the year. “The season already is a success. Not only because of the titles we’ve won, but how we’ve done it. The combination of both of these factors allows me to say that the season has been a good one, no matter how it ends. If we win the League or the Champions League, it would be excellent,” said President Rosell during the press conference at the Sala París. “You travel the world and everyone tells you that Barça is the best team in the world,” he added, visibly proud of the football Josep Guardiola’s team practices.

The manager was one of the main focal points of the press conference. “What I want for Christmas is Guardiola’s contract renewal to be signed,” admitted Sandro Rosell, who reminded the journalists that “this Board has extened his contract twice.” Conscious that this is a “personal” decision for Guardiola, he said, “he knows that he can sign for one, two, three or even four more years, until our term is up. He has a contract waiting for him ... we will do everything possible so that he cannot say no.”

Along these lines, the president admitted that “Zubizarreta is working diligently to plan the football team next year, and the next and the next, with the idea that Guardiola will stay, but you cannot plan without having a plan B just in case he decides to not continue.” If the manager doesn’t renew his contract, Rosell avoided words like “panic” or “fear” to define the situation that the Club would be in: “The Club is above any person. The day he leaves, we’ll all be sad but we won’t panic.”

Why should the manager renew his contract? The president was asked. “To be happy, for the group, for the results, for motivation, eagerness,” he responded.

The second name on everyone’s lips at the Sala París was Neymar. The Brazilian player has been linked to the Club by various news outlets. “He’s a Santos player until 2014 and, if Barça were interested, I wouldn’t say anything. If we made a move for the player, I wouldn’t say anything. The only thing that I would accomplish in saying anything on the subject would hurt Barça’s interests and I won’t say anything that would damage the Club,” he said.

President Rosell said that the institutional ties with Real Madrid were improving. “I think they have improved. This happens with time. Now we have the correct institutional relations with them,” he explained. Rosell went on to say, “the facts demonstrate that Real Madrid’s attitude towards Barça has changed. The tension from last year is gone. Those five games against them were not good.” Rosell said the Real Madrid’s President, Florentino Perez, wished Barça luck in the Club World Cup after the victory at the Bernabéu (1-3) and he sent a congratulatory letter to the Club after the victory in Japan. On Mourinho’s comments, Rosell simply said that “that’s part of the world of football.”

President Rosell said that Éric Abidal is very close to signing a contract extension with FC Barcelona. “We’ll soon announce Abidal’s contract renewal. There are some fiscal loose ends that need to be addressed, mainly because his tax status has changed. We have to give him a contract that adheres to the law. He had the Beckham law now it’s time to redo it. It’s right around the corner,” he said. He also talked about Alexander Hleb, who could leave Wolfsburg, the team that currently has him on loan. “If he returns, we’ll have to find him a way out,” said Rosell.

Sandro Rosell confessed that it would be a “dream” to see a final will 11 players from the Masía in the starting lineup, something that could happen in any Barça game. “This isn’t our main objective, it’s to form, create players,” he indicated.

The Masía, however, will be a protagonist at the FIFA Ballon d’Or gala when Xavi and Messi, along with Cristiano Ronaldo, will be named among the three best players in the world. Any preference? “I want Messi or Xavi or Xavi and Messi to finish first and second. Any Barça player winning it would satisfy me,” said Rosell.

Lastly, the president talked about the proposal to shorten the Liga schedule to grow the Champions Leauge. “We must work with the international schedule because it’s not optimal. We must redesign the Champions League and reduce the national competitions. A complete overhaul is needed for the schedule and the competitions,” he said. (via FCBarcelona.cat)

Rosell: “I'm going to try to achieve Club unity”

One of the president’s pending projects is to achieve cohesion within the Club. While the Club is enjoying a triumphant period, Rosell asks everyone associated with the Club “to row in the same direction”.

This is one of FC Barcelona’s most glorious periods in the Club’s 112 year history. Winning the Best team in the World crown this Sunday was the icing on the cake in a year where Barça’s professional teams (football, basketball, handball, roller hokey and futsal) lifted a total of 16 trophies. It was a record year for FC Barcelona. Sandro Rosell is satisfied and proud of the hard work the athletes put in to accomplish such a feat. However, the president is also proud of the Club's social and economic improvements, “we are straightening out the difficult situation that we found the Club in when we got here ... this past fiscal year we reduced the deficit by 66 million euros,” something that, according to the president, “will help us move the project forward in the future.”

Among the Board’s many challenges there is on that is fundamental for President Rosell. The president’s main goal is to achieve unity within the Club. Rosell is aware that the division in the Azulgrana world is a longstanding issue that is nothing new and the reason that it exists is because of “historic reasons.” But the president said that he’s “stubborn” and he “will try to find unity.” The president and his board of directors are open to extending their hand to “the small pockets [of people associated with the Club] that are not excited to be part of the best football team in the history of the sport.” Rosell made note that “people of great significance within these groups” were invited to partake with the Club during finals and other momentous occasions. Even though they did not come “we will continue to try,” because Rosell is sure that “we will do everything within our power for them to come, everyone is welcome here.” Rosell understands that Barça is going through a glorious moment and he believes everyone associated with the Club “must row in the same direction.”

Rosell toasts with the press at the Camp Nou

This Thursday the Espacio Roma at the Camp Nou held the traditional Club luncheon with Catalan press.

As is tradition during the Christmas holidays, the Espacio Roma of the Camp Nou hosted the Club’s luncheon with Catalan press. Sandro Rosell and his FC Barcelona board of directors entertained the press that covers the first team and the Club’s other professional teams on a daily basis.

Just like in the luncheon with Club employees, the five trophies won in 2011 were on display: League, Champions League, European and Spanish Super Cups and the Club World Cup. This time, however, the president didn’t give a speech, who had already wished the journalists a merry Christmas and toasted to their health during the press conference prior to the luncheon.
