Barça back home

The Barça squad is back in Barcelona after spending the night in Valencia. Sadly without the cup trophy among their luggage, they now have a day off and return to work on Friday morning to prepare for the league game with Osasuna.

The plane landed in Barcelona shortly before 1.00 pm, and the players were transferred directly to the Camp Nou, where despite last night’s defeat there were still some 400 fans on the forecourt to show that they will be supporting this team on its way to even more important objectives.

Pep Guardiola has given his players a day off today. They will be due back for training tomorrow Friday at 11.00 am, behind closed doors in the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper and immediately after, the FC Barcelona manager will be giving a press conference.

There is no time to dwell on Wednesday night’s disappointment because on Saturday at 20.00 they have a league fixture at home to Osasuna. (via FCBarcelona.cat)

Adriano, four weeks KO

Adriano Correia will be about four weeks off. Tests have confirmed this morning that the player has a hamstring injury in the adductor of the right thigh, according to the Club Medical Services.

The defeat of Barcelona at the Mestalla has been accompanied by more bad news: the injury to Adriano Correia, who will be sidelined for four weeks and joins the lower Bojan and Abidal.

Thus, the player loses insurance that remains in the League and, if the deadlines are met, could return on a hypothetical Champions League final on 28 May. Remember that Adriano was replaced injured in minute 118 by Maxwell. (via FCBarcelona.cat)

Guardiola loses first final as manager

Barça’s defeat at Mestalla was also the first in a final for Josep Guardiola, after accumulating a six out of six record. The following are other items of trivia associated to Wednesday’s cup final.

Guardiola had previously won one Champions League, Copa del Rey, Clubs World Cup and European Supercup final, and two Spanish Supercup finals. Despite the defeat, six out of seven is still some achievement.

It was also the first time Guardiola has lost a game in extra time. In Monaco and Abu Dhabi, Barça came out tops.

Barça had won their last three cup finals and hadn’t lost one for 15 years. The last time they lost was also 1-0 in extra time, that time against Atlético Madrid, who took the title thanks to a Pantic goal in 1995/96.

The game at Mestalla was incredibly tight in almost all senses: total shots (13 for Barça, 11 for Madrid), shots on target (3 for Barça, 5 for Madrid), crosses (16 for Barça, 12 for Madrid) and fouls committed (26 for Madrid, 24 for Barça).

When it came to passes, Barça, as usual were way ahead of their opponents. They made 816 good passes and Madrid made 289. Xavi made the most (135).

Alves gave away the most balls (14) but also recovered the most (10) for Barcelona.

Barça failed to score for the first time in 2011. The last time they ended a game goalless was in the round of sixteen of the Copa del Rey against Athletic Bilbao (0-0). (via FCBarcelona.cat)

United to win Liga and Champions League

Barça go into the final stages with their sights on winning the two most important trophies of the season. They are eight points clear in the league and still have the Champions League semi final to come.

The cup is over, but there is no time for sorrow. Barcelona still have two titles to fight for, and the Liga and Champions League are hardly minor compensation. There is plenty to look forward to in what remains of the season.

Pep Guardiola said as much after the game at Mestalla: “We’ll pick ourselves up, of course we will.” Villa went further, and said “the best part of the season has yet to come” and Xavi pointed out that “La Liga and the Champions League are the most important titles”.

The Barça players now have a day off and return on Thursday to start working on the league fixture on Saturday against Osasuna (20.00).

There are six games to go, and with an eight point lead, a win against Osasuna, who are 14th with 25 points and are just 5 clear of the relegation zone, three points would bring Barcelona incredibly close to mathematically securing the championship.

After the game at the Camp Nou against Osasuna, it’s back to Europe, where FCB will be meeting Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu once again.

The semi final first leg is on Wednesday, April 27. After a trip to Anoeta to face Real Sociedad, the Camp Nou will be the venue the Tuesday after in a crunch game that will decide which of the two giants of La Liga will be going to the grand final, which this year is being held at Wembley on May 28.

But there are four league games to come before the hypothetical final. Two are at home (Espanyol and Deportivo) and the other two are on the road (Levante and Malaga).

What is sadly certain is that there will be no repeat of the treble of 2008-09, but the league and European Cup double, as in 1992 and 2006, is still on the cards. (via FCBarcelona.cat)

Zubi: “Now all five senses are on Osasuna”

The sports director for Professional Sport, Andoni Zubizarreta, has said that after losing the Copa del Rey final, the team simply has to recover and start thinking about the league and Osasuna on Saturday.

Zubizarreta spoke to the media at Valencia airport just before taking the flight back to Barcelona. After congratulating Real Madrid and both sets of fans, he said that before meeting Madrid again in the Champions League, they first have to think about their forthcoming league fixture against Osasuna at the Camp Nou.

“For the moment, we have to recover, reorganise and have our five senses set on Osasuna on Saturday. It’s time to turn the page, today is Thursday and we have to go back to the frontline on Saturday and remain focused on winning the five points. More than ever, it’s a case of taking each game as it comes. We have to understand that the next game is at the Camp Nou against Osasuna, and we all have to support the team through what is not an easy time. First, the league. The rest will come later” he said.

On the game, he said that “Madrid had us in the first half, and we had them in the second.” Zubizarreta was pleased that his team “wanted to win until the last second by staying faithful to our style … We played the way we like, and tried to keep to our personality. That is how we played in the final and we’ll do the same again on Saturday”.

But Zubi had to accept that the defeat “does hurt, those of us who are Barça people are leaving in pain because we didn’t win. A final has so many elements, so many details, so many little things … If a game is normally decided by little things, that’s even more so in extra time. That’s football, a sport that attracts so many people because anything can happen." (via FCBarcelona.cat)

Shakira shout themselves hoarse cheering Barca

The singer rang with the club and lived from the stage of the game Mestalla who played her boyfriend Gerard Piqué. Shakira was most expressive clapping and wailing at every move by Guardiola. I enclose the following video where you can see that the Colombian was at all times pending final.

The Trophy Cup, run over because of Sergio Ramos

Sergio Ramos was the subject of the conclusion of the Madrid Cup trophy fall out of the bus, which eventually hit.

Sergio Ramos is one of the most parodied the sports landscape, but is that the Seville is the pulse beat with his comments and actions. This Wednesday night returned to 'contested to' to appear in all the chains to fall out Cup trophy from the second floor of the bus with whites who were going to Cibeles. The bus driver was not aware of the fact and continued to advance a few meters to completely overwhelm a trophy that had to be 'rescued' by members of the Samur and no longer appear in public again to be battered. This is a new trophy of 15 kilos of weight and fresh out of the gold trophy as the former Sevilla kept it owned. The video is priceless ...

We must also know how to win

On the 'sausages' of Pepe in the celebration.

The manor has both assumed or presumed Real Madrid throughout their history was marred especially with the celebration of Pepe in goal by Cristiano Ronaldo. The Brazilian, who during the two games he has played against Barca has not tired of sharing wood besides spitting in the locker room tunnel at the Bernabeu on Saturday, put the icing on devoting his unsportsmanlike conduct some 'sausages' to the fans Blaugrana when his team scored. The Christian both occurred at the bottom where the fans were located Catalans and holding some of the players Real Madrid was not in line with what should be a sporting event as the final of the Copa del Rey and, of course, more of a club like Real Madrid. Pepe not only made the ugly gesture to the fans, but Sergio Ramos is also faced with the crowd throwing their arms and causing those who were on the other side.

These were precisely the two players during the 120 minutes that lasted the finals are more sensitive to anything that passed through the field. Ramos, without going any further, then spent the game chasing the referee, pointed and pointed out what was right or not. Undiano Mallenco allowed this harassment. Pepe, meanwhile, left more than a recadito of yours and was particularly irascible.

Their attitude contrasts with that of Barca's players and their coach, who showed how to lose only the height of the great teams in history. Pep Guardiola beginning and ending with the fans who traveled to Valencia, Barca failed to recognize the merits of the rival and they felt proud of the way of doing things despite Barca's defeat. Now is the thrilling semi-final of the Champions League which write a new chapter of confrontation between them. (via MD)

[Pepe gave the finger to the fans of Barca]
Good losing Guardiola is commendable. Most of the Madrid players were also friendly to beat Pepe exception and not as good as mindless.

When Christian scored the 0-1 in overtime, the first thing that made his compatriot Pepe, before going to celebrate with the front, was made an ugly gesture to the bleachers where was the bulk of Catalans fans. A 'botifarra' demonstrates the lack of education of a player who may have great footballing qualities, but at every opportunity you have, lost the manners in the field. Who knows if the knockout semi-finals of the Champions League still to play, will have to regret the gesture ... (via SPORT)

Deserted streets and parties postponed

Plaça Catalunya, no holding, but the fans are hoping the Champions League.

A football finale left the streets deserted again, starting with Barcelona. Millions of people watched live the match between Barcelona and Real Madrid, el clásico that beats all records, worldwide. Barca fans expected to leave after those same streets to celebrate the end of the meeting another triumph of Barça, but this time it could be and the festivities were postponed.

There was much expectation especially in the center of Barcelona, where everything was about to celebrate the King's Cup in Placa Catalunya, but after the defeat of the Catalan side, people who had planned to go to the heart of the Catalan capital dispersed . The celebrations were inevitably postponed.

But fans of Barcelona are confident that not for long. The team has the league in the pocket and is the Champions League, in which the FC Barcelona expected to hit the big revenge for yesterday's defeat at the Mestalla. The Barca fans that his dream of eliminating the tournament Real Madrid king and win the final at Wembley.

While Barcelona, at the institutional level, there was no celebration planned for the event had won, the Real Madrid instead planned to celebrate last night at Cibeles. (via MD)

Undiano spared the red card Arbeloa, Pepe and Alonso

The side gave a display of violence not seen card, his two companions deserve to see the second yellow.

Although there are many who think that Real Madrid did not win yesterday Undiano Mallenco, there will be many who may think that the referee Navarre threw a few hands to set target to really walk away with the Cup there was no play in areas they are wrong. Ie that no longer point to any penalty that it was neither claimed any that were not, contrary to what happened in the classic league who led Muñiz Fernández. Of course, a detailed analysis of the implementation of the regulation Undiano did not let him in good stead in terms of the use of cards to cut out mistakes, especially the many who made Real Madrid. Without being too strict, three Madrid players could be expelled. In the first part, Pepe stepped on his ankle after she failed Messi missing in action deserves a clear card. Also before the end of the break, the Portuguese swept the area again Busquets remaining unpunished as yellow.

Arbeloa was the meringue that most deserved to be expelled. In a move to Villa, selection colleague, nudged first and a stamp later. Result: no yellow card. In addition, he dug his heels where it hurts to Adriano unpunished.

And Xabi Alonso, the most technical of the average of Madrid, saw a yellow come from behind Messi but later went scot-free after a clear grab for Iniesta. (via MD)
